Minnesota Historical Society Press, $17.95

Little Johnny attends an Ojibwe feast with his grandmother and discovers he must allow others to go first before he can eat. He waits through a long Ojibwe prayer and then waits some more while the elders eat first. Then, when he finally has a chance to fill his plate, his grandmother’s elderly friend arrives. But now, Johnny knows what to do. Written and illustrated by two members of the mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, the book is intended for children aged 3-7.
