Powermonkey eXplorer

powermonkey_opt~s250x500

The Powermonkey eXplorer (MSRP about $100) is a compact yet versatile little charger that is perfect for a backpacking trip or car camping. When you need a boost, simply plug your electronic device into the Powermonkey for a charge. It works with everything from cell phones to iPods.

The Powermonkey itself is a battery pack about the size of a small cell phone and can be charged in three ways: with a small solar panel (included), via USB from a computer, or on a wall outlet. Charge it up before you head out, and use the solar panel to recharge while you’re on the trail. A complete charge off a wall outlet takes about 3.5 hours. Alternately, strap the solar charger to your pack on a sunny day and it will be fully loaded in six hours. With a full charge, the battery pack provides 40 hours of power for an MP3 player or 96 hours for a cell phone.

The Powermonkey comes loaded with enough attachments to charge just about anything. If you don’t find the attachment you need in the handy little pouch, visit the Powermonkey website to get a different one. The Powermonkey eXplorer is invaluable when you need an extra boost of power. Visit www.powertraveller.com for more information. –Kate Watson
