SAULT STE. MARIE—Parks Canada has announced plans for infrastructure investments totaling more than $16 million in infrastructure improvements for Pukaskwa National Park and the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site. The projects will include significant work to the entry road and administration building at Pukaskwa, as well as on several buildings and structures at Sault Ste. Marie historic site.
Despite its remote location on Lake Superior’s northern shore, Pukaskwa National Park attracts 10,000 visitors per year. The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site draws more than 100,000 land-based and 50,000 water-based visitors.
The projects are part of a nationwide investment by the Government of Canada in national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas. The investments represent the largest federal infrastructure plan in the 104-year history of Parks Canada.
