Anishinaabe Syndicated: A View From the Rez

anishinaabe_opt~s250x500

By Jim Northrup
Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2011. $17.95

In wry prose that skips seamlessly between topics, following the oral tradition, “Anishinaabe Syndicated” chronicles daily happenings and immense changes in the Anishinaabe community between 1989 and 2001 with equal parts humor, grace and fire—often in the same sentence. (“As a Vietnam vet, I felt honored, but still think we should quit making veterans…”) The title refers to the author’s longtime syndicated newspaper column, “Fond du Lac Follies.” Jim Northrup, an award-winning journalist, playwright and poet, is also the author of “Rez Road Follies” and “Walking the Rez Road.” Highly recommended. –Shelby Gonzalez
